Dominion – Awesome new card game!

Dominion

The somewhat new game Dominion is really awesome! In Dominion, each player starts with an identical, very small deck of cards. In the center of the table is a selection of other cards the players can “buy” as they can afford them. Through their selection of cards to buy, and how they play their hands as they draw them, the players construct their deck on the fly, striving for the most efficient path to the precious victory points by game end. You are a monarch, like your parents before you, a ruler of a small pleasant kingdom of rivers and evergreens. Unlike your parents, however, you have hopes and dreams! You want a bigger and more pleasant kingdom, with more rivers and a wider variety of trees. You want a Dominion! In all directions lie fiefs, freeholds, and feodums. All are small bits of land, controlled by petty lords and verging on anarchy. You will bring civilization to these people, uniting them under your banner. But wait! It must be something in the air; several other monarchs have had the exact same idea. You must race to get as much of the unclaimed land as possible, fending them off along the way. To do this you will hire minions, construct buildings, spruce up your castle, and fill the coffers of your treasury.

Fallout 3: The Best Game Ever

I have always loved the sci-fi genre, more specifically, the mad max, waterworld, post-apocalyptic stuff, so the Fallout series is right up my alley. I played Fallout and Fallout 2 when they were released and have wished for another amazing game since I finished those. Unfortunately, for all us fans 5 or more years ago Fallout: Tactics was not that game, but fortunately for us now: FALLOUT 3 IS!!!!
It brings together so many great elements, but the best way I can describe this game is a heavily upgraded version of Morrowind: Oblivion combinbed with the story, humor, and universe of Fallout…AMAZING!!! BUY THIS GAME!!

Civilization 4: Colonization

I am an avid fan of the Civilization series, so when I heard that there was a new Civ game coming out, I was happy. Civilization 4: Colonization is a remake of the 90’s cult classic, Colonization. They used the amazing Civ 4 engine and remade an old game with solid concepts and gameplay into a great new game.

I tried to play the game like it was a game of Civilization, but this is a totally different game, with it’s own strategies. I am very happy with this game, it has a lot of depth and concepts that work well in the game and make it fun, but are also based on actual events in history. The game developers made a game that works but is also fun and mostly historically accurate, fairly impressive! They also made the MSRP(price tag) a very reasonable $29.99, instead of $50.00 since it is based on an existing game engine and is a remake…very smart!

All-in-all, this is a great game at a great price! I highly recommend it!

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed….falls very short of expectations

I bought Star Wars: The Force Unleashed the day it came out, heck I even went to the midnight release, though I was worried whether this game woudl ive up to the hype, or if the reviews would be accurate. I was 100% right, and never should have invested the money….$60.00 plus tax plus gas is a lot to play a mediocre game.

I would rate it a 6 out of 10 at best, I woudl consider giving it a 5 actually. It has repetitive gameplay, glitches, non-fun sections that were hyped before release so they left it in, and broken instructions in-game….all-in-all a terrible showing for a game that is supposed to be great and a real part of the Star Wars universe…They should have just made Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 3 instead.

DON’T BUY THIS GAME, RENT IT!

Game Night Fun – Settlers of Catan

I played a board game with my brother, my dad and my friend Noah this afternoon.  It has been awhile since I played Settlers of Catan, but as always it is an awesome game.  You trade with the other players on your island, while competing to see who can create the largest and most succesful nation.

I also recently bought a new copy of The Great Dalmuti, a very fun card game related/based on the game Asshole, a bar card game. I am hoping we will play that soon.

I have also been designing a campaign scenario for Magic the Gathering, which combines magic duel with a risk style campaign board and abilities reminiscent of Vanguard cards.
